I've got a "step in" pantry in my tiny kitchen - it's 7 or 8 feet tall and there's just enough space to squash yourself in there and close the door. I hadn't thought too much about how it looked, only that things were set out so that it was accessible. Then one day a friend commented that she was moved to go home and rearrange her food storage because my pantry looked so neat! I was quite flattered!
Is your pantry tidy??

Occasionally it gets jumbled up a little. But basically we know where everything goes. It is very deep. The top is tall so the pasta sometimes gets thrown up there. We don't have alot of packets these days only perhaps chicken noodle soup mix. We have way too many sauces, these usually take up a whole shelf. The potatoes and shopping bags and onions are at the bottom. We have thought of buying a couple of wire shelves from betterware but haven't yet.

hmmm....I think I'd call mine a *work in progess*. It almost never stays straight since the kids or dh rummage thru it for snacks.

When I was still unpacking houses, we'd often hunt up a big plastic container or basket or two to put all the snacks in. They wouldn't stay looking that neat once the kids came home, of course, but at least they were all kept in one spot.
Spices were another area that we had to think creatively about - lots of people kept a million tiny little open bags of herbs and spices loose in their pantries.

Those little bags are awful, I take it they are cheaper than the bottles. We do refill the larger bottles with those little spice bags.

Does anyone use pegs to keep the bags from spilling?

We sometimes use pegs or bulldog clips to close things, but mostly they go into containers of some sort.
A few of the people we've unpacked for had a huge number of little bags of spices (about half of which would be ripped and the contents would spill everywhere!). They must have kept them pushed to the side in their old pantry, and of course the pantry in the new house is never the same so they end up a big jumble. I'm convinced most of them were used only once anyway, it would be too hard to find the right one!
The hardest pantries to set up are ones with very deep shelves, which are often in very old houses. One pantry I was given to do had very little accessible space - it was about 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep with very shallow shelves, but with only 2 feet of door, so you had to kind of stick you arm around the corner to put things in there. I'm sure the food that ended up at the back will stay there, unused, until they next move!

Does anyone use pegs to keep the bags from spilling? Yep all the time, they are stronger than some of those 'chip clips' we have around here. I did get some nice clips the other day in a dollar store with magnets on the back of them. 4 for a $1! Nice and strong, so finally got a good deal. ;D

The day I clean and straighten it up and *maybe* for a week or so afterwards and then Jack will get in there or put groceries away and it's a disaster again. LOL

We have a kind of spice basket that is nearly on the verge of being unmanageable, you need to be very calm when looking through it, which is fun if you are calm lol. I try it sit the bags with pegs on the top nicely and try to only have one or two.
Those clips sound good Deed, well done.

I try to keep the pantry organised, but it is hard...I prefer the clothes pins to those clips too...the clips fall apart to easily

I have a couple of big baskets for snacks.....the problem comes when they dump it all out, grab what they want and leave the mess for me. They also love cereals as snacks, so they are bad about taking the boxes out, returning them unclosed.....grrrrr.
My spices and seasonings are in an upper cabinet to the left of stove. They are in little round containers on a lazy susan and some in those little plastic storage bins found at the the dollar store. They come in all sizes and shapes...mine are mostly rectangular.

What cereal do they love to snack on the most? My worst nightmare is cocopops all over the floor lol. I know your boys don't do that.
I got a lazy Susan of some sort when I was a child, I saw my great aunty up the street I think and she gave me some money! So I love the name lazy Susan.

Hey BR,
They love Cap'n Crunch, Reese's Puffs, Golden Grahams, Frosted Flakes, Apple Jacks and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Yes, they also get it on the floor...you know that old saying, "Boys will be boys", it applies in my home too! LOL.
Jayne, I use clothes pins also, mostly on bags of chips and such.

My second son I expect would have a great time at your place. I am meany mum lol. He at the moment cooks himself things, loves meat and cheese lol. Do they charge heaps for cereal there? Some kids have nutrigrain for snacks, fruitybix aren't bad either.
