About Me
Many people just don't have the extra space for large scale home gardening projects. I recently came across an idea I thought I'd share -- it's especially for those of you who would like to have fresh salad fixings but don't have room in your yard or only have a small deck or patio. This is also a great idea for singles.
This idea requires an old metal washtub (or any container of that general size and shape):
1) Fill the tub with potting soil.
2) Add a small trellis at the back of the tub to train cherry tomatoes and cucumbers to grow upright.
3) Plant some small radishes and green onions in the front and leaf lettuce in the center. Maybe even include an edible flower or two for color.
4) Place your salad garden in a sunny corner and water frequently.
Then sit back and prepare to enjoy your fresh, homegrown delights!
I'd recommend putting the salad tub close to the kitchen door where you can reach it easily. I've seen these small wash-tub salad gardens decorating porches and decks, and they look very homey (it's a "good thing" -- Martha would be proud).
