He's a little liberal in his use of language, and some of his ideas, but gosh I enjoy Bill Bryson.
Down Under is about Australia. He's mentioned various facts about this country, in which I've lived for 30 years, that neither I nor anyone else in the family knew. It's really interesting to read about the country as described by someone who doesn't live here, and who is very observant and thorough with his research.
There are many hilarious anecdotes throughout the book, one of which is his description of the behaviour of the flies on the Peninsula in Victoria. You may not think that a description of flies could be funny, but he sure makes it so!

I will have my book soon. I'm sure I will be in a hurry to share anything new to me I find lol.
We had a fly inside last night and it was acting strangely.

I have read a few pages and already I have been shocked twice! lol.
I can't believe how little the American newspapers mentions Australia. I am wondering where Americans do get their information about Australia.
Secondly that earthquake in the middle of Australia, that is astounding. An atomic bomb!
