I finally finished reading Barbara Kingsolver's "Small Wonder" last month, and have since been reading a lot of gardening/farming books.
Earthworms in NZ (Amy Stewart) Rodale Institue's Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening Biodynamic Farming in NZ and currently: "Stolen Harvest: the hijacking of the global food supply" by Vandana Shiva - which highlights a lot of problems in third world countries such as India, where the people and their farms have been exploited to the point of no return (poverty, habitat loss). The writer encourages people to support small, local, sustainable farmers and reduce our dependence on overseas markets for luxury items. I don't want to use canola or soybean oil anymore, or ever eat shrimp unless I know exactly what seashore farmer it has come from (and that the farm is sustainable)!
Some online books I've skimmed: (links are too long to put here) Search on Google Books: Radical Simplicity: Jim Merkel Rural Renaissance (Lisa Kivirist, John Duane Ivanko) They only have samples of the books here, but enough to get a good idea of the content and ideas in each book.
Hope you all find something of interest here! Rosebee

I'm reading "Oak" as mentioned elsewhere - amazing, but I don't think I'll finish it as it has to go back to work tomorrow.
Gardening When It Counts: Growing Food in Hard Times by Steve Solomon is the other book I'm half way through. It's about veggie gardening by a very experienced gardener, and is a great read.
