Yup, there's a book titled "Oak", about the oak tree. The author, William Bryant Logan, is a man with an obsession, imo, but to my surprise it's really interesting.
One fact is that acorns were a staple food, centuries ago. They are apparently still sold, in the US at least, in the form of a tofu-like jelly, and a flour. He details his experiments with acorn flour, which he finds produces food that is much more filling than that made using other flours.
The book, so far as I've read, effectively traces human civilization through the oak tree.

Denise mentioned it once here, it is fascinating isn't it?
I am going to see if I can find the book.

It sure is fascinating. It's not a book I'd have picked up, assuming that it would be rather dry and scientific, but what a surprise.
The book belongs to the lady I work for; she asked if I'd like to do a review on it. Once I started reading it became apparent that it's much more interesting than I'd have ever guessed.
