Hi everyone, I'm Deed a moderator here in the sewing forum. *waving* Please jump right in and tell us all about yourself and what you like to sew. Are you a beginner at sewing or an old hand? Do you make clothing, toys or do you prefer sewing for your home? I think I have tried just about everything once, ok except a wedding dress, LOL I wouldn't say I am an expert, but I sure do love creating in my sewing room!

Hi Deed, and don't let her kid you everyone..Dee is an expert...Trust me..
Dee, I use to sew all the time. Kids clothing when they were small. Things for the house. Now I only sew for crafts, and I am getting ready to make a coverlet for my bed from antique hankies. And of course I sew when I quilt.

I'm hoping to make one in the next week or two for the bathroom to help block the morning sun out. Car, I love sewing for kids! Wish I had some kids of my own, but I used to make do with my nieces and nephews. Now they are all grown so I borrow my friends kids! LOL Can't wait to see your "hanky coverlet". ;D

Between running errands with Jack these last few days, the heat and trying to get my garden and berry bushes straighten out, my house looks like a tornado hit it! I haven't done anything in here except the bare minimum, let alone sewing! LOL

Hi Ladies................ I love to sew and have a collection of sewing machines. I still have my first one which was a tiny hand crank one you connect to the table with a "C" clamp and is a black Singer. I have my portable with lots of stiches etc. but, I got it from Sears when my son was 2 and now he is 34! Still use it and works good! Any of you have a treddle (sp?) out there? I love mine but, it can be a killer on the ankles after a while if you are not used to it. Anyway.......I sew quilts, lots of crafts, and used to do clothes for myself and my son when he was small. Now, I have agreed to do curtins, valances and drapes for my niece's new home that will be finished being built in July. My problem is..........I like to sew WHEN I feel like it. It is hard to do when I am not in the mood. I'm thinking I better get in the mood quick! Last night my son Brian was over and asked me......."Mom, would you make us some drapes in the American indian designs for our livingroom now that the remodeling is done? Oh yeah..........I better get in the mood fast! No excuses right now..............not working at the moment and no kids at home........!! It is true that when you have more to do, you can often get a lot more done! So, send me some sewing vibes ladies, I need to get in gear here. Once I get started I'll be fine. Tootles for now..............

Hi sparkle and welcome to H&H! ;D I know just what you mean, give me a deadline and I will procrastinate to the very last second! I too like to sew when I want to sew! LOL I do have a treadle machine, but I need some parts for it before I can actually use it. Some day I hope to try it out. I remember my grandma sewing on hers all the time.

Hi Sparkle and welcome to H&H I have a new sewing machine I don't know how to use very well yet. I can do some basic stitches, it has lots of different ones. But I tend to try to do too many things at once and never get finished.
Hey Deed, we may need to get Sparkle here to get us moving on those Roman shades! LOL

I am a timid beginner. The only thing I have ever made is an apron (with help) and some pillowcases. I started a quilt, but never finished it. I have many, many projects I need to do. I am trying to be self-taught, but I am not a good teacher or a student apparently lol

Hey Ellise, I was also going to do some Roman shades but, we moved from that place and I don't have anywhere in this house that I need them. I was going to do the thermal-lined ones with about 5-6 layers of different things. At JoAnn's craft store they had a set up of them made and how to do it. They keep out the heat and the cold..........and you can even put the magnetic edge all around it as well as where it touches your window or wall.......... that way nothing gets through. The magnetic strip rolls out and is like velcro with the two pieces to work with. Anyway...........didn't get to do it but, worth thinking about if you need that much protection from heat or cold. Have fun girls, I know you can do it!

I have a HUGE (109" w x 68" L top to bottom) picture window in my livingroom and that is what I want to cover. My biggest problem is that my cats think they need to look out of that window all the time and they have ruined several sets of blinds!
I think I'll check them out at Joann's and see if I can make 'em. LOL

Hi, I sew. I used to manage Joann Fabrics and decided to take a class to make sure I knew what I was doing. I have sewn everything from table cloths to a wedding dress.
I have been quilting lately more than sewing apparel. It seams that everyone wants a baby quilt. LOL

Hi Jill and welcome to our little home on the net! Neat that you managed a JoAnn's, one of my favorite stores. Actually I could spend hours (and do) in there! ;D Right now I'm not actually working on anything. So much outside work for me to do, by the time I'm done with that, I'm usually too pooped to move let alone sew. I did finish my mom's tote bag and made a neck cooler last week. Dad took that. LOL I hope to make some more as I could really use one myself outside in this heat. I'm beginning to think I better set aside some time for me to sew or it won't get done. And I am itching to create, so maybe those weeds in the garden will get to grow one more day, and I'll take tomorrow to create something. LOL

Yes, I too love to sew. I've started a little side business called "Sew Sweet Designs". I make purses, pillow, aprons, childrens clothes and accessories. I learned to sew as a young girl. Now that I'm retired from a paycheck and have grand babies, I've started sewing more often. I made a little suit for my son when he was two for my b-i-l's wedding. I won blue ribbons in 4-H. Now that I'm not busy outside with the gardens, I can sew, sew, sew. I've been busy getting ready for my Holiday Open House on December 3rd. Happy Sewing ya'll!
