After my surgery, I'm not going to be able to eat "food" for a few days. . . . I'm allergic to milk, so do you have any smoothie recipes without milk that will keep me fairly satisfied?

*Tip: If you want to stay away from soy and dairy, you can try using orange juice in place of the dairy in many smoothy recipes. and add a half a banana (or more) for a little creaminess. also, you can use frozen fruit instead of ice to thicken to keep it from being watery

If you don't want to use the soy-milk you can use rice milk, and you can add a little tofu also. There are many variations. I use fresh or frozen fruit of your choice, rice or vanilla soy milk, tofu, crushed ice, a little fruit juice (apple or pineapple) put all in blender, and there you go! Great smoothie

Orange-Pink Grapefruit Smoothie
sweet and sour smoothie, makes a great snack or breakfast.
2 oranges 1 pink grapefruit 8 ice cubes honey
2-3 servings
Cut the fruits to pieces removing all of the white stuff and the seeds. Chill the fruits in the freezer for a while for smoother consistency. Stick the fruits in the blender with the ice and honey to taste.

I cracked up when I saw the title of this smoothie. I haven't tried this one yet either, but it does sound good and may fill you up more. I don't know if the claims this writer makes are true, so take it with a grain of salt Sic a Monkey on Your Pms (Moody Time of the Month) This sweet dessert beverage is rich in calcium, magnesium and potassium, all which are thought to help relieve PMS symptoms. Other sources of nutrients are the antioxidant rich cocoa which is also high in fiber. The cocoa powder really curbs cravings. 8 ounces plain soy milk 1/2 cup ice 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter 2 (1 g) packets Splenda sugar substitute (or two teaspoons) 1 tablespoon unsweetened baking cocoa, hershey's powder 1/2 banana Using a blender: add all of the above ingredients. Pulse on and off until bleded to a nice creamy texture. Pour into a 16 ounce cup. It is recommended that you drink this twice a day during PMS, so use the other half of the banana at the end of the day. Regarding the fat and calories: your body actually burns more calories and fat during PMS, but due to bloating, women tend to diet during this sensitive phase. www.recipezaar.com/145008

Peach Cooler Smoothie
1 cup chopped peeled peaches 1 cup skim milk (or soy or rice milk to make it dairy-free) 3-4 tablespoons honey (to taste) 1/4 teaspoon almond extract 8-10 cracked ice cubes 2 sprigs fresh mint
Puree peaches in blender. Add milk, honey, and almond extract and process until smooth. With blender running at high speed, add ice cubes one at a time and process until smooth. I would recommend shutting down the blender while you're actually adding the cubes! Pour thick shakes into two tall glasses and serve with a sprig of mint.

I hope you can use some of those, Denise. You may even want to try a few before you need to be using them as your food source to weed out the ones you don't like.
