Ryan has been having these killer headaches for a while now. Recently they've caused blurry vision and an upset stomach. We went to the dr. today and he's referring us to a neurologist. Our doc things that they are migraines, especially since I have them as well. So please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. We see the neurologist next Thursday and hopefully will have some direction as to what is next. Ryan's eye has not recovered (permanently dialated pupil) from our car wreck 13 months ago and I'm wondering if it has a connection with the migraines.
Also if anyone has had a child with migraines, I'd be thankful for any advise.

Bless her heart and yours too. Don't have a child that has them. But I do. I too saw a neurologist for mine. He referred me to an opthamolgist....who determined that mine were definitely linked to my terrible eyesight. I've worn glasses my whole life and was crushed when he told me that I would eventually go blind. But there's one thing about it...while I appreciate his professional opinion, he's not God and only He knows the future. So I just put it in his hands and refused to the let the enemy burden me down with it.
I'm praying for your daughter. Please keep us updated, Pat....hugs to you, Mama.

Aww poor Ryan, headaches stink but migraines are even worse! I would say they are linked to her injury but I'm not a doctor. I hope this new doctor can give her the relief she needs so she can be a kid again.
Let us know how the appointment goes Pat. {{{Ryan}}}

Pat,
I also get migraines as well as does my oldest dd. Both of us started getting them in puberty. Seems to be the typical time they come out.
Bless Ryan's heart. I hope you get to the bottom of this. Lori has to go to the hospital for meds when she gets them. But I have Imitrex injections I give myself when I get one and it really helps. Perhaps he can give her the Imitrex pills or nose spray.
Keep us posted please. Hugs to Ryan

Thanks everyone. She's at school today but I pumped her full of Excedrin before I took her. The headache has yet to go away but it has lessened some. I just want it to be next Thursday (2/9) so we can get to the doc and find out what to do. I've heard from several people that said their migraines started with puberty. Just another reason to stay little and not grow up!!!

Gotta be different here, my ds started getting migraines when he was 5. In kids the overwhelming feature is the tummy ache/nausea, the headache becomes more prevelant as they get older. We have a family history of migraines, but once ds teeth were sorted out, he stopped getting them so often. (wisdom teeth removed)
As for poor Ryan, I have a friend who also started to get them after a car accident. It took about 12 months, but eventually they petered out completely and she hasn't had a migraine since. It would be nice to think that will happen for Ryan too. Otherwise, my ds had no medicine because of the vomiting, I just kept him home from school and he lay around until it passed.

We did see the neurologist and I love her. She's a very highly recommended doc but I loved that she was a mom of 2 kids close to Ryan's age. She understood completely what Ryan' symptoms are. Yep they are migraines and it appears that they will be here for a while anyway. She's hoping that as Ryan's body matures they may go away though. She gave her Imitrex to take (low dose) and gave us both hugs. We are to keep a diary of her headaches and see her again in 5 weeks. Ryan had another one on Tuesday evening and it was a doozy. Took the Imitrex twice (maximum dose) and then she just had to go to bed it was so bad. Yesterday she looked like a limp dishrag but did make it through school okay. This morning she was back to normal.

At least you know what the problem is, but I do feel so sorry for poor Ryan. I hope the doctor is correct and that she grows out of them.

I'd been wondering how she was doing. Glad to hear you liked the dr. (the neuro I saw had such a nasty attitude). That makes for a good patient dr relationship. And like MV says, at least you know what you're dealing with now. Hoping and praying for many headache free days.

Well she's got another one today. Seems to be having them about every 3 days. Errrrr. I did a bit of research and read that vitamin B-2 is supposed to help with migraines. So I went and got some at lunch today and will start her on it tonight. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Has anyone else had any experience with B-2?

I don't have a child with migraines, but Dave had them a LOT when he was a kid, and since I've known him (17 yrs) has only had 1 or 2.
