Here is one that I vaguely remember. Hope it is exactly the same. www.grandpapencil.com/activity/arecipe/tuncase.htmThere is one that you add canned soup, pasta and tuna and it somehow cooks itself in the oven. Then the one with cheese sauce and macaroni. Then I have seen Lynn's tuna casserole. Are there any others? (They have to be a tiny bit retro)

I have tried only 1 other than the one I posted and did not like it all. I do like this new one someone emailed me.....I think it came from healthy living/eating e-letter.

My mother used to make it with tuna, rice, peas, and cream of mushroom soup. Yum

All I can remember about my mom's was it had egg noodles, tuna, cream of mushroom soup, other ingredients?, and potato chips on top.
There are many meals that I remember the taste of, but can't find that taste in any recipe. Does that make sense?

I think authentic tuna casserole recipes are very hard to find. I love the potato chip one.

I think authentic tuna casserole recipes are very hard to find. I love the potato chip one. Hard to define what is authentic too. I think it's like brownies or something similar that has many different variations of how to make the same thing...or like Shepherd's pie...kwim?

I think what I mean by authentic is something families made a lot of in the 1970s or early 80s. A recipe that was going around I guess.

I guess everyone has their favourite and wants to find that one, then I have trouble remembering the details.

Lynn's casserole, hope you don't mind Lynn.
"Not Your Mother's Tuna Casserole
serves 4
1 box white cheddar macaroni and cheese 1/2 onion, chopped 1 can albacore tuna, drained 1/2 T butter 1/8 c butter 1 c skim milk 1 c saltine cracker crumbs 3/4 c low fat cheese, shredded
Boil water to make boxed mac and cheese. Cook pasta and drain. In the meantime, chop the onion, open and drain tuna and get ready to launch into tuna casserole land.
In a medium sized skillet, melt the 1/2 T of butter. Saute your onion and as it turns clear, add the drained tuna. Then add the milk, butter and sauce packet from the box and cook til it thickens. Schlep everything together except the saltines and cheddar and stick it in a lightly greased casserole dish. Top with saltines and then cheese. Bake for about 15 minutes, give or take in a preaheated 350 degree oven.
very easy to make, and can be doubled if needed. serve with a green salad and you've got a good spring evening meal."
I have found notes of what I think should go into the baked one. 1 can soup plus one can water and milk, 2 cups shaped pasta and 1 large can of tuna.

I found one with egg noodles, not sure I have had that one, unless it was actually the one with the chips on top. Someone else made it so I don't know if she used mushroom soup. "Tuna Casserole Preparation Time: 10 minutes Cooking Time: 30 minutes You need: 2 cups egg noodles 240 grams of tin tuna fish 1 tin of condensed mushroom soup biscuit crumbs or grated cheese tasty or plain extra butter Method: Cook noodles. Drain and rinse in cold water. Chop tuna in pieces. Mix noodles, tuna and seasoned soup and place in a buttered baking dish. Cover with grated cheese and/or biscuit crumbs dotted with butter. Bake in a medium oven for 25-30 minutes." From: www.abc.net.au/gippsland/stories/s829917.htm
