First let me say I don't have any human kids, lots of the 4 legged kind though. LOL I also have a lot of nieces and nephews.
I just got done watching Super Nanny on TV and was just appalled at what parents will put up with from their children!
The program I watched was with a set of 5 year old triplets that hit, kicked, punched and were verbally nasty to each other AND their parents!
Where the heck was the discipline? Nope not one bit of it, while fights and name calling were going on in the living room, Mom was in blissful ignorance in the kitchen. And in my opinion she knew exactly what was going on and chose this route, just easier to deal with or rather NOT to deal with.
I guess I am appalled because I am a strict disciplinarian. I have taken my nieces and nephews many times for overnights and even on trips, but I always give them the 'RULES' up front. Any violation results in 'such and such' for punishment.
Now that may sound like I am a dictator, but in actuality they all have always wanted to come to my house or go with me wherever. I think it is because I do things with them, crafts and such. I do know that I don't have the day to day dealings with them or all the extras of running a house hold with a family. But goodness, NO WAY would I deal with all that bickering, hitting etc.... NO WAY, NO HOW! I am the adult and it is going to be done MY WAY!
That is not to say I don't listen to children, I do and am very willing to see things their way, but without the shouting and hitting.
So my question is, how do you deal with discipline in your home. Are you the adult and in charge or are the children? Please be honest, I am really curious.
