I don't have kids, but hear a lot about how today's children are parked either in front of the TV playing games or the computer playing games. Don't children ever go out and play tag, kick the can, hide and go seek (best done at night ) anymore? What type of outdoor games to your children play? I'd like to see us all get our children involved in outdoor activities. Not only is the exercise it provides healthy for them but it's FUN! ;D Please excuse this post if your children have a medical condition that excludes them from physcial exertion. {{{hugs}}}

Daniel doesn't "play" outside anymore LOL but he runs 2 miles a day everyday, plays football, basketball and does weightlifting. Feeds the neighbors dog when they are out of town.
He helps us in the garden, mows the lawn (at times) washes the cars. When his buddies come around they tend to stay outside more than indoors.
We also do nature walks, go hiking when we can and do lots of outdoor activities.

Good for you Gina! My sister has my neice in all sorts of "extras" as well but when she's not around, Nattie pooh is glued to the TV! UGH, it makes me sick to think this child never gets to go outdoors and just be a kid!

I completely agree ladies! I can remember my mom on Saturday mornings allowing us to watch cartoons until 8 or so, then we had to do whatever chore for the week. When that was done, out the door we went! And we only had 3 channels back then! LOL
Ellise, could you please send me some of Daniel's energy? ;D

I've been trying to bottle it for 15 years now! If I had even 1/4 of it I'd be thin again. ;D ;D LMBO!

Dee, my boys do spend more time on the x-box, tv or computor than I would like....sigh...but they do play also alot outside. Daniel is the one who is always outside. He oftens skateboards with his friends. He also likes to play football with his friends after school. He likes dodge ball and he also plays basket sometimes. Mathieu likes to play football with his friends...he often gets hurt. lol...they play rough! He likes basketball, too and he prefers rollerskating. François mostly skateboards and hangs out with his friends at the skate park or the arena. He also travels alot with his bike to the next town to visit friends. He even walks to the next town! As for Patrick...well he is my quiet one...drawing alot, cutting paper and making things, playing lego...watching movies we have...playing with his game boy (too much) I have to force him to go play outside. He's be inside all the time. He's afraid of flys and bees, too...so he has a tendancy to not want to go out for that...lol...He does play basket and is good for his age. And he likes to play in the dirt and look for bugs! And he loves to swim! So that's a bit how my boys pass their time...when not watching tv....

Michelle, we had this problem when Daniel was 4 years old....there was no children left in our street! Akk were in school or daycare....He would get so lonely and I would have to play with him alot but sometimes he just didn't want to play with me, he would get angry and would tell me he wanted friends to play with.

My dd likes to play outside more than my ds. Seth is like me. We don't like to sweat lol. He comes in complaining about it being hot outside (we haven't hit the hot part of the summer yet lol)and wants to play video games or computer games. Sometimes I am the mean mommy and say no and make them go back outside. Then he is "bored". I wish my kids liked to play outside like I did.

I guess I am a mean mom! I MAKE my kiddos play outside. They all prefer outside. If there aren't any other kids around then tough cookies. I think parents are making mistakes today thinking their kids need somethign to "do" all the time. kids need to be kids and in my mind that includes LOTS of time outdoors just doing whatever.
Mom used to make us play outisde lots. all day in the summer. And if we needed a drink we got one out of the hose *gasp*

We also had chores to do outside everyday in the summer. Mainly watering and weeding the garden. But one year I remember my sister and I had to roof the back porch. The peaks were too high on the house, but the porch was sorta flat. Well dad put down the plywood part and we had to do the felt and shingles. My dad also built my mom's kitchen cabinets one time and every day we had to go out on the back porch and steel wool them down, then apply another coat of polyurethane. I think we did this at least 8 times for each cupboard, door and drawer front, and Mom has a BIG kitchen, so lots of cupboards! When we were done with them, they were smooth as glass! ;D

Auck...Lori if you don't stop CPS is going to come get me..LOL
Yes, I did make them play out and I didn't let them run in and out..(drink was an excuse)
And they are all happy and HEALTHY today..
Have you all noticed the kids that set in front of the tv, computer and other games are tending to not only be unhealthy but overweight.
My doctor told me that the rate of kids being Type 2 Diabetic now has increased almost 70%. Use to kids weren't Type 2..
Sad.. So, let's get those kids off their behinders....and out to play..and while we are at it..perhaps we should go get some exercise with em..Eh?

My three love to be outside. We have a trampoline, and that gets alot of action- now that it's hot they get up there with the hose or put the sprinkler underneath. They also like to ride bikes, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades- you name it. My oldest son likes to toss the football around, and they all have recently discovered the frisbee:) We have alot of nearby parks so we go in the early a.m before it gets hot or after 7 with daddy since they don't have to be in bed early right now.
I am so sadened (sp) when I walk the halls in the elementary school and see kids who outweigh me! Too much screen time and not enough outside time!
On our street we have the fewest elctronic gadgets (ONE t.v and only a nintendo 64!) but all the neighborhood kids hang out here! I think having fewer gadgets has made my kids have fabulous imaginations! You should see what they create out of the recycle box. Of course, they still probably watch too much t.v.

Tami, I think that is fabulous that your kids love the outdoors and your home is the gathering place for the neighborhood. Do you camp too?
