Well, It's been awhile................. but,
I remember my son Brian was outside a lot doing things and building things and playing sports etc. Luckily his two sons love to be out too........in fact I was over there today and out playing baseball with them.........7 and 5..........well, I pooped out cause they live at the 5,000 ft. level and I'm not used to running around in that altitude.........I can really feel it. This afternoon I had the boys down here at my house 2300 ft. level and they were out the door right away.............They decided to use my tiki torches lying on the ground.........as swords and then decided they needed to make it more realistic so they got into the blackberry bushes and ate some and used the rest to smear all over their faces to represent BLOOD! When their mom came by to pick them up after work today.........what a sight they were! We both just had to laugh at them. They were having a perfectly great time in my backyard..........no expensive toys........just imagination! However, the "swords" got put away........don't need any bad accidents! Now, that is the way I used to play outside cause i didn't have any expensive toys either. I remember once as a kid we got some dry ice from somewhere and found some old bottles and beakers from behind a lab and took them home. We pretended we were scientists as we set them all out on an outdoor table and added water and the white steam started to rise! We were quite impressed with ourselves and our "new" invention! I'm hoping my grandsons will continue to to use their imaginations.
They also hammered some wood boards together in the shape of an airplane.......about 8ft. long and they were outside today painting it and writing their names on it. They made a propeller with a small board and a long nail and when it turned............they were sooooooooooo proud of themselves. To me..........that is what being a kid should include. They each have walkmans and they play those but.........they love the outdoors too......thank goodness!
