I learnt this at school. Not even sure how I remembered what it was called. "Working from right to left, use a blind hemming stitch. This stitch is formed by taking a small stitch in the hem, then picking up one thread of the garment about ¼" ahead of the first stitch. Repeat this until the entire hem is sewn. Take care not to pull the stitches tight or the hem will appear puckered. Leave the stitches somewhat slack, but not loose." Maybe I could learn to do it by machine one day.
