According to this we have racoons: "What is the difference between a prairie dog and a ferret? Prairie dogs are members of the squirrel family. Ferrets are members of the raccoon family. Black footed ferrets were the main predators of prairie dogs until the 20th century when black footed ferrets almost became extinct. The government is currently supporting a program which reintroduces black footed ferrets into the wild. What are those little, brown animals that look like chipmunks? Ground squirrels, also known as gophers, inhabit many areas in South Dakota. They are characterized by brown fur with 13 greenish stripes on their backs. They belong to the same family as squirrels and prairie dogs." From: www.prairiehomestead.com/prairie_homestead.htmlMy husband and I have had quite a few ferrets. We have nets and a hunting dog to get the rabbits that get away. There has been one at school lately, one child brought it to show the other children.
