I now am the proud owner of a second hand UPS. I feel much better about the power surges and the lights that dip on and off when we have threatened blackouts, in regards to my computer especially.
Does anyone else have one?

Lol, cupcake, that's what I was thinking. Br, in the city we don't have much trouble with power surges (the computer will cook now, just because I said that!). It's obviously a problem where you live, though? It must feel wonderful knowing that everything will run without problems.

There was one Wednesday I heard of where a lot of people went to the computer shop in one day, luckily we weren't one of them.
We have to have different to normal light globes. We are too close to the hydro plant.

Ah, so the power surges are caused by your town's proximity to the power producer?
Actually, I think it's a problem in some areas in Melbourne, too. We may be lucky where we are, in that regard.
I suppose computer equipment is not covered by insurance for power surges?

Today it sort of worked, apparently the battery is down and we have to remember to buy one when we go to the regional centre. There has been wild weather today, well, wildish.

I think that if you live in a remote area it would be nice to be able to buy the batteries locally. Maybe someone has them?
