We may have to replace our phone. DH was talking about checking out the new phones to get one with something like an aerial. The new phones don't have them, but you can get something on some phones like an aerial. He was describing standing on your car to get reception! www.australianit.news.com.au/story/0,24897,21960661-15306,00.html There have been lots of complaints about the new phones.

I gather this is a problem that's been brewing for some time. I understood that the CDMA network was more robust in the country, but that they're phasing it out, which will leave many people in a no-reception zone, despite reassurances to the contrary.
The NextG coverage seems to be better in the city, particularly inside and between buildings, but of course not everyone lives in the city.
I can imagine how frustrating this would be for people living out of the city. For a while my mobile phone was with the Three network, and even though I was in their stated video coverage area, the reception was very patchy. I missed many calls, and it would frequently drop out. It was pointless even having the silly thing.
I hope enough media coverage and political pressure ensures that the problem is sorted out.

If I remember what dh said last night, he found an LG phone, and I think it was $300, then you buy these extras to help. We don't actually get coverage on two of the roads out of here for some distance usually anyway. Thankfully we haven't been stuck there. I need to change over the CB in my car. I read yesterday some people replace their CB radios with these aerials. Here is another forum with information. www.exploroz.com/Forum/Topic/17464/CDMA_phones.aspxI wish I was eligible for a satellite phone. www.mrvfone.com.au/carkits/cdmakit.htmI have seen the real estate agent with an aerial mounted on his car. Not sure what that is about, I know he uses his phone a lot. Here is something about the LG. forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/647739.html

Br, the whirlpool forum post encapsulates what I love about the internet - you can find out anything, and someone will have been dealing with the same problem, and may have already found a solution that will work for you.
Btw, I'm sure you will have to buy a new phone. Whenever there's an "improvement" it always seems to cost the consumer more!

You might remember I wanted to buy the phone this week. It is a bad week for me to buy the phone as we have to buy paint etc.
I decided to wait a couple of weeks as I got a letter from Telstra that suggested they may give a couple of weeks extension.
Today I found out that the cut off date has been pushed forward a couple of months. I'm very pleased about that.

We have a bit of extra money at the moment, so we got our phone yesterday. The one we wanted to buy has been removed from sale. So that left one to chose from.
Having said that, I have made myself some new friends. All of a sudden I have become very popular with my teenagers lol.
I actually feel I would have liked to have kept my old phone.

Nothing like a new mobile/cell phone to catch the kids' attention lol. Hope the reception is as good as they promised.

I have found the numbers hard to read, so I hope to give it to the kids and hopefully find one that suits me better. We were due to get a phone for ds at the end of this year for going to uni etc. and living away from home if that is what transpires.
