My van won't start. DH took the battery out and the cables. There are some wires attached to the cables that are frayed. He went to AutoZone and the Mercury dealer only to find that this part is NO LONGER MADE!!!!!!

How in the heck can I be driving a van that has a part that is NO LONGER MADE?!?!?!?! (Sorry for yelling). He got a new battery, but if that doesn't fix it - I will be permanently without wheels.
