I had forgotten all about this issue, it never occurred to me that it would come up with the change of government. I don't know how to explain it, maybe violet can. www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23206157-2,00.html I got the link from the ads above.

The kids and I were discussing the apology tonight. We all feel it's overall a good thing and will hopefully enable Australia's indigenous population to move forward. I don't know much about the greater issue either, except that there has been a push for an apology for a very long time. Listening to a podcast this morning, I was horrified to hear the story of one Aboriginal woman's story of how she was taken from her family and put into various foster families, orphanages and jails until she turned 18 and was able to finally get away from government interference. I find it difficult to understand how the government of the day felt it could improve the lot of families by removing their children from them. www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/02/13/2161109.htmI think the promise of an apology was one of the reasons the current Prime Minister was elected.
