I'm number 7 on the reserve list at the library, but I can't wait to read this book. It's by a journalist who gathered evidence about food and disease; he believes we should eat food that's been unadulterated. Instead of margarine, which is filled with chemicals, he believes that butter is better, but that we should eat less of it. I heard him interviewed, and what he said made sense to me. (and I like to have butter on my toast every now and then!) www.michaelpollan.com/indefense.php

I am leaning towards that arguement as well.

During the interview I heard with him on the ABC, he made the point that he won't buy anything that has more than 5 ingredients in it.
His argument for butter versus margarine was that butter is natural, whereas margarine is oil that has had ingredients added and subtracted to make it appear to be butter. He said that as we shouldn't eat much of either, we may as well have butter because it's not only the more natural food, it tastes better.
The kids love mashed potato and while 2 of them would faint if I told them, I put a little butter in it for the taste. They're the two who drink no-fat milk, which I won't touch because it's so processed. The author made a point about low/no-fat milk, too, something to do with a lack of evidence about the supposed evils of regular milk.
