Today I did a costing on what it cost to make our latest batch of preserves from our jam melons.
We grew the jam melons. On the weekend we made what turned out like lemon marmalade. Recipe in preserving section.
We made 17 jars. 7 large ones, 1 medium one and 7 small ones.
The marmalade we usually buy from the shop costs $6.04 for a medium sized jar.
The sugar cost $8.52 exactly, the lemons cost $8.40.
Total costs to us $16.92.
Total price to buy the marmalade retail, $102.68. Profit, $85.76.(AU).
