Feel free to add to the stickied organising journal for everyone, or start one of your own, we would love to read it and hear your ideas.
We bought a house in the second half of this year. As yet we haven't moved in. I have been reading my magazines, supposedly to throw out some old ones.
Yesterday I came across a kitchen in a magazine with the remains of a chimney/mantlepiece. They used the mantlepiece for storing their cookbooks.
Yesterday I put a couple of books on top of my new house' mantlepiece in the kitchen and they fit I think. There is a cupboard at one end so don't need a bookstop at that end. I was concerned that I needed a dresser in the dining room just for the cookbooks and I wanted to avoid that. If it is in that area, it just gets used for junk.
So one moving problem solved. When the builder and plumber finish in there we can wash everything, paint inside the cupboards and put my recipes up. Sounds very homey and I like that. A display wouldn't work for me, I wanted to copy what my Nana did with her mantlepiece.

We solved another problem today, well three of us did between us. We bought a fancy fan in Bunnings, with pull switch. They are great for places where a fan hasn't been previously installed, but not so good for a replacement. The electrician hadn't put the fan in as a replacement.
My Mum was saying the dining room needs a fan. I was worried how this would affect the strips over the plaster that meet in the middle. DH talked about this with me. So our new fan goes in the dining room now, and the electrician is happy, and then hopefully finish up and send us the bill.
