Feel free to add bits of your own.
Today the trunk was organised, even though we have been here for two years. It didn't have a home and was actually outside on the verandah. It is a trunk with some old school things of DH and myself.
At the moment it is sitting in place of the woodbox, but it is a nice color for that position and will do for about 4-6 months.
It will be nice when all the things are integrated back into our lives again.

Today DH had to go to school for a moment and brought back a parcel that had been waiting for us. It was a sock fundraiser. I had ordered some socks and an ironing board cover. I was so happy with my cover I kept looking at it. We bought a new ironing board last year but it just had the silver covering. The new cover is a beigey color, with little cotton reel prints, a sewing machine, needles etc. I love it, it is nice and padded. Great fundraiser.
Another bit of organising done! Great.

I got the frame and photo, the inspiration came from one of the skins on this board, and packed it in a box, well dh did to take into the regional centre today for framing. Unfortunately the shop was closed for the holidays. Maybe we will get another chance later.

Today dh was fixing up a cupboard that was in the carport after moving here. We had decided to use it on the side verandah for gumboots (wellingtons or rubber boots) and other things that normally would go on a back porch inside but we don't have one. I have also been wanting a wardrobe for the little girls, but there was not much room or cash. dd8 saw the cupboard being cleaned after fixing and said she would like to use the cupboard for a wardrobe.
Well, it is exactly the right size, and I didn't think of it. So there will be one less thing in the carport and a wardrobe for the girls. Just needs a light sand and some varnish, dh has gone to buy it.
Getting there.

The shops were open today. After a 1 1/2 hour drive in the heat, with air-con, dh got new light glasses and the framer is putting the photo into the antique frame, it is brown with gold decorations.
The cupboard is painted and dd loves it. She has put bluetack and mini posters on the front, has her new Pollypockets in there, some dresses, shoes and other fav things. It was great, the same size as her fold up doors on the room, so the whole effect is good.
I noticed in a Fantastic Furniture catalogue they sell long thin wardrobes for kids these days, so it was a great idea she had.

Last night we found a box at the bottom of the linen press and went through that, and this meant we found a permanent place to put our microfiche reader so it is off the floor. I was really pleased. The box contained curtains, later on I remembered Mum had made them for our rental, I am not sure we even got to hang them up, which is sad, possibly we were too busy.

Canning jars now have a home. Not many boxes to go.

One of the curtains Mum made for our rental property for our dd then 1's room was a curtain from our original house, then she put some orange material on the bottom to tie it in with the pine cot and also the recycled retro orange curtains that she took the worn bits off etc.
It looks good in our kitchen that also has pine. It also screens out people looking in very well, which is great because there is a new house going up over there.
I took away a box with a babies mattress in it from the linen press or closet. Now the blankets are stored there.

I had an idea to use my gold trunk that previously housed baby clothes for tiny babies, for use for gumboots and japaras.
I have no idea if this will work but worth a try. Gumboots are rubber boots and japara is a coat or maybe slicker, a coat people wear riding horses etc. to keep the rain off.
The trunk is lined with a paper that seems to have insecticide in it, about 20 years old. At least outside on the verandah the insecticide won't affect anybody's breathing, but possibly will keep the spiders out of the boots etc.

One of the things that needed unpacking was a platter, and old one. It has pride of place in the top of an oldfashioned kitchen cupboard now in a plate rack built into the cupboard. I haven't actually put it there now.
See other thread about the cupboard.

That's great that you have a place for your platter, Br.
Exciting news here - dh finally took the rubbish from the verandah to the tip! Yay! Less junk. He wouldn't take the 4 wheels from ds's previous car though, which is a shame. They're not much of a lawn decoration, but at least they're out the back, I suppose.

We a type of broom cupboard with shelves that used to be in the bathroom of our first home. We have no use for it at the moment. We didn't get rid of it though. So we are going to use it as a storage cupboard for our pickles and jams. There is a wall that it will fit on near the back door. The jams we have made so far fit in the bottom of a tall boy.

I have been reading through some old magazines. One picture I found was of a narrow bookshelf with two doors at the bottom. I thought that could replace our current bookshelf and leave room for phone books at the bottom.
I also saw another photo of a piano with a lamp on it and a small picture leaning up against the wall, I thought that could be handy for a modern piano arrangement, copying what was in the picture and going from there.
