Ok, it may seem unimportant, but when we finally bought a new cutlery set, it was too bulky to fit in my little kitchen drawer. There is a plastic divider tray in there, so it wasn't utter chaos, but I remembered seeing how it was done when I worked for the unpacking people.
For example, the large spoons are in two varieties, soup and dessert. The dessert spoons are placed in their allotted space with the bowl of the spoon towards the top of the space, and the soup spoons are placed with their handles towards the top of the space. So, looking down on the space, there are two stacks of spoons, one handle up and one handle down. Very neat, and it does make it easier to grab the correct piece of cutlery without having to dig through a pile.
Well, I'm happy anyway. ;D

Wow, I think that is great. I have been thinking about cutlery too.
I used to put my spoons like that I think.
I have been thinking if I like the modern designs or not. Any thoughts?

My particular "thing" with regard to cutlery is the the tines of the fork. I don't like them to be too wide, too short or "stamped" out of the metal so that they have an unfinished looking edge. I like mostly the traditional patterns, or plain ones. Either way, they must be a good sized as I don't like small pieces. They should also feel fairly solid. Fussy, aren't I? It took a trip to the store looking at all the different patterns to realise that I do have firm feelings about my knives, forks and spoons! Cafes often have very nice simple sets. Can't find mine, but it's similar to this: www.petersofkensington.com.au/Product/ProductInfo.aspx?id=1276562&cid=528When we were married a hundred million years ago, my dear grandmother bought us a set of Oneida silverplate cutlery which is very pretty and which we still use.

I must admit I try to pick out a particular tine for myself at tea time.
