For years I placed cups/mugs/glasses in the kitchen cupboard with the opening face down, reasoning that dust would not get inside that way. A couple of years back there was a report about that same issue, which came to the conclusion that cups should be placed bottom down. Although some dust could settle in the glasses - and it would be minimal in closed cupboards - they felt there is likely to be more dust on the floor of the cupboard/shelf as they're not cleaned as often. These days it's not so important as the glasses in particular only seem to stay in the cupboard for about 10 seconds before someone gets yet another one out. What's your theory on this?

When I was the one putting them away, they went cup down, I am starting to forget these things, hopefully it is still habit.
