We've used various pieces of furniture to put the TV on over the years. The most recent is a rather rustic looking small cupboard made specifically for a TV. The TV itself sits on top, there's a space under that for the DVD player, and a two-door cupboard under that.
I've always wanted a cabinet to hide it in during the day, and noticed that Ikea have one that matches some of their bookshelves. Not sure how good my chances are of convincing dh to buy it all though!
Anyway, are TV stands/cupboards/etc becoming irrelevant now that so many plasma/lcd TV's are appearing on the market? It would be rather nice to have the TV hanging on the wall, but I gather there's a lot more to doing that than just putting it up like a picture.

I was sitting in my car two weeks ago. I always seem to get the same car park. Maybe people are scared of the big concrete planter in front of it, or maybe the drain is at a steep angle there. Anyway the park is in front of a furniture store. I love this shop's furniture. I saw a TV cabinet I would really like. It was more a buffet shape I guess. Lots of money, or a 1,000 or so I would imagine.
I decided that can wait for about 10 years.
I also saw a catalogue of furniture. It could have been the Chrisco savings club. They had a buffet in the lounge behind the lounge chair or sofa/couch. Just when buffets were at the point of not being needed.
I hope that doesn't mean young people live like old grandmas. I am sorry, I haven't voiced that opinion before, and haven't thought about it too much, I'm sure there is a better explanation.
I have a similar sized one to yours Violet without the shelf, our shelf is inside the doors. Was yours like Freedom ones a while back? I loved those rustic ones, still do actually. Maybe the ones I'm thinking of, the TV was actually inside it. I'm sure they had smaller ones though.
I could see how getting the Ikea one would be great for you, hope DH thinks so too.
Having a cupboard is a first for us. We usually use a coffee table. I like it. We didn't actually buy it. One day I realised it was just the right size. It was made for my stepsons bedroom many years ago.

It is really hard with TV cabinets. You don't want to buy it then change your mind and have to keep it. I still feel our little cupboard is probably not the perfect answer. We may paint it soon. I like it but it wouldn't be what guests expect, possibly.

The other problem with tv cabinets is that if you buy a new set, it may not fit! For years we used an unwanted bedside table, then it was a tea trolley that the bank was throwing out - we even had a metal stand my parents were disposing of. They all disintegrated sooner or later, as they weren't built to cope with the weight or they were so old to start with that there wasn't much life left in them!
Anyway, I shall bide my time with the tv stand and approach dh in a weak moment..... ;D Like when his football team's won!
