Ironing Tuesday, then by the Friday the housecleaning was brought under control so that there wasn't so much to do Saturday, and then Sunday was a day off.
Were people neater then? Was there that much less stuff? If a few basic chores weren't done here each day, we'd be drowning in mess!

I *try* to run my house on that old fashioned schedule, Violet. Doesn't always work, but I know it can be done. My mil is very much the same way and has encouraged me thru the years.
I do think folks had less "stuff" back then. More stuff = more time spent taking care of it! Just my 2 cents worth.

I think they swept daily not sure.
I have wondered what it would be like to do it like that. Maybe I should fill the line up next Monday.

I don't know how washing on one day would be possible with a large family. It would take two washing machines, and two or more BIG clotheslines. I struggle with line space with the 5 of us.
It would have to be reassuring to know what you will be doing on a particular day, rather than running around trying to do a little of everything. Some things, like sweeping as Br mentioned, would have to be daily, but not the dusting or vacuuming or floor washing. Ages of children would have a bearing on how often things need to be cleaned, also weather. Little children + rain = lots of people and mess in house!

I agree re the laundry, Violet. I do have to wash every day or nearly anyway. I have a book called Simply Organized by Emilie Barnes and she lists a daily routine of chores. And of course, like you say, some things are just a given...ya' know you're gonna' have to do them period.

Ooh, I'll look around for that book, thanks lynn. Now we are in Spring, it's time to finish up some of the painting chores that I've ignored, and having an organized house would be a huge help with that. I used to go through each morning and have everything tidy and clean, with bigger jobs done as I had the time. That doesn't work with the boys being in and out all day long, and I do think a more scheduled approach, but done less often, may be better.
