I had particle board in the built in wardrobes or closets in our last home. I remember it is not supposed to be good for photos which is where I kept them for a couple of years.
Have you heard of this?

If I remember correctly, particle board absorbs moisture. I could be wrong though, it has been a long time since I had a particle board piece of furniture but I remember it smelling humid in there.

I am not keen on particle board, and I am really glad we don't have anything made from it in this house. I think it was a 70s thing in Australia.
