Do you store items according to logic, or by virtue of where they'll fit?? My tool box won't fit in the already-full laundry cupboard, so instead it lives in the bathroom. The toilet paper supply fits nicely in a spot in my wardrobe.....I would dearly love a BIG cupboard somewhere, or a garage. We knocked down the old garage as it was unsafe, also the backyard was so tiny the kids had nowhere to play.
When they renovated their house, a friend filled one wall of their hallway with full-height, deep cupboards, like an over-sized linen press. It's a dream, they have a space for everything.

Lisanne Oliver is the queen of this sort of thing, I am always impressed with what she does. Haven't watched her for awhile though. www.sorted.net.au/

By virtue of where they fit. My entryway is an extension of our kitchen. So when you come into the house, you are greeted by baking supplies and even a stack of toilet paper. I don't want it this way but French houses rarely come with any closets or storage built in so it is common to see things in peoples houses here that seem out of place. I remember when we were house hunting. We saw a really neat old stone farmhouse. The people had thier milk (UHT-long shelf life milk) stored on the floor on both sides of the toilet in the bathroom I think there could possibly be a better place, if even the back porch for that. We have a wine cellar here (cave) and I like to keep the non food stuffs in there like soap, etc. I don't know about storing food in there if it is safe from humidity or insects.
