Wow!! I thought I was spending a lot since moving to a new town. My average grocery bill is $150 sometimes $170, but rarely more (This last one was $190 and I was ) So that is for 2 adults and 1 nearly teen. We generally make as much as we can, although baking has been rare this year. I prefer to use home made rather than commercially prepared. I bottle fruit in season, and when the price is right, I bottle tomatoes when I can get them at the right price. That price includes all toiletries and cleaning products as well. We have about $60 left for milk etc during the week. Sometimes that includes a meal out. I must remember that I did a big shop at Aldi a couple of months ago and that makes a difference too. But that $250 and I haven't used half of it yet. I guess if you really want to it is possible to be careful with the budget. Sue

Our eldest lives in a city and I used to give him $60 and usually he spent $50, so $150 doesn't sound a lot.

I think so much depends on where one lives and the cost of food there. When we lived in Ontario, our average monthly food bill was $500.00/month. We are a family of 5. When we moved to NL, that took a huge jump to around $600.00-$700.00 for the month. That is food only --- no cleaning products etc. and doesn't include meals eaten out. For example, when we left Ontario, we were paying $3.79/4 litres and here it was $7.02/4 litres (now it's $7.58). We drink about 14 litres of milk/week. Same as bananas, in Ontario they were about .94/kg and here they were about $2.00/kg. We were shocked at the food prices and ended up cutting some things out because they were just too costly here.
