I have just spent some time outside with our new puppy. It had been three hours since anyone had been to see him, so he got excited to see me. He fetched a couple of things for me and wanted to play with me. Our old dog, which was the same breed played the same sort of game even when he was old until the last few weeks. I encouraged this game by playing with the chew toy rope thing trying to get him to get it etc. He has two new bowls blue with white bones on them and the toy which the girls (minus the keenest one who is at camp) bought after their sister did the leg work. They were at our version of the $2 or Reject Shop. I didn't realise I would enjoy playing with him and even his smell, I guess I can try but I can't get rid of the farmer in me after all. The photos were very hurried last night. Maybe I could take some more.

He's a lovely color, Br. Is it the farmer in you, or the mum? I know so many lovely women, who are great mums, who buy a dog when their youngest is no longer a baby. It's lovely to see them working their mothering magic with the raw material of a new dog. The dogs, like their kids, always grow up into particularly nice specimens.

I recognised a bit of Mum coming out, a strange feeling.

No, I decided my necessity for mothering has probably been well fulfilled lol. I do enjoy his company though. I fed him tonight. As you can see, after the vet expressed an interest to see him after we bought some puppy food similar to the food the kennel owner gave us; he has a new collar. The vet was sad when our other dog was put down. The receptionist made a fuss over him, the girl chose the collar, obviously to match his bowl. The girls have given him a wash yesterday. We have some organic shampoo. We were thinking Koko or Milo for a name but still undecided.

Bruno was suggested, but still not decided.
He liked an Aussie rules football so when dd11 was at the regional centre she bought him a doggie football and a blue and white dotted lead.
Today we needed to use the gate, and he was put on the chain for a few minutes. He actually sat quietly on it after the initial bit. Later on he thought the chain lying there was a snake and started barking at it.
Yesterday it was raining all day and he was like an older dog and spent the day in the dry kennel that has straw in it.
We have a horse that sometimes puts its head over the fence. He thought that was very interesting. All sounds are new to him, at first it was the sound of water going into his water metal bowl that we keep under the tap.

We were down to Milo and Miki. A few days ago we sent in his papers for the microchipping I think with Miki on them. Here is the place I found it: www.babynamenetwork.com/baby_names/detail.cfm?name=Miki&gender=MaleThe name is because of that big spot on his back like a moon. DD11 thinks the three spots make him like a Mickey Mouse. His Mum's name is Skye. Our old dog has the same spot and was called Mousse. They are very similar. We wonder if Mousse who we got at a pound, which is strange because there is a thing called Breeder's Support, and Miki are somehow related. I bought Miki a nice squeak toy at Safeway nearly 2 weeks ago as his chicken that squeaked didn't last long. He had a duck baby toy when at the breeders, the girls found one exactly the same when they were our at their Nana's last week. They also bought him a ball that bounces in all directions. I have a photo of him in "his" sandpit. It is a large tractor tyre with some of the sidewall cut out. He digs in there. His eye has had ointment, but it is not normal yet. Another trip to the vet required I think.

What a fabulous idea, Br, to give him a nice big space for digging in. I must say he looks rather cleaner in the photo on the 20th lol. He's a lovely looking fellow.

He ended up having surgery they stitched the eyelid open more so it didn't rub. The stitches came out by themselves a couple of days ago, and we need to get him checked again, but the lids has stayed what looks like a normal position.
At some point not long ago he learnt how to wag his tail. The kids enjoy him a lot. Even ds17 which is really nice.
He and the cat haven't worked out any arrangement yet, so the cat doesn't get to go in the backyard.

Our dog's favourite thing at the moment is ropes. He pulls along a golf cart with a rope, and sometimes tries to tug the chain attached to his kennel. He dug it up from the straw first as it isn't used very often.

He seems to be coming along very nicely, Br. It's wonderful that ds 17 is enjoying him too.
