This sort of takes in homeschooling as well as regular schools. Our two oldest dc were in school and dh is involved with the school system, so we tend to follow it as well.....but I've been wondering what the school year looks like in Australia?
In the school boards we've been involved with here in Canada ...we always have July and August off for summer holidays, two weeks at Christmas time and a week in the spring (Ontario it was in March, here in NL they combine it with Easter).
Some school boards have what they call a modified school year. I'm not real familiar with it but it goes something like this ---- one month off in the summer, then they go to school for a month or maybe two, followed by a week off and continue on with that pattern. People who are in these areas seem to like this route better....they say dc don't forget as much as they do when they have the two months off. I don't think I'd like this as our warm weather months are short as it is. We're not winter sports enthusiasts as many people are so we'd rather be off and out and about in the nice weather and then in school when it's not as nice out (but that's just us as some people do like the modified year).
What does the school year look like in Australia?

I'm sorry linda, I missed this before.
In Victoria when my step-children and myself and husband etc. went to school it was a large holiday during summer, ie January, basically 6 weeks. Then we had two weeks off during May and September.
Now we have a five? week holiday during January/end December, two weeks off around Easter, July and Sept/Oct.
Still basically 10 weeks I think. Not many Mums seem to remember the old way of doing things, but I loved it.
Around here there seems to be an occasion all the time, and I am thinking the Mum's like that kind of lifestyle, or maybe they genuinely think it is better for the kids, I don't know.

That's interesting, BR. I think that's so cool (for lack of a better term lol) that your summer is January. We are usually in the middle of our winter then with lots of snow and cold weather. Linda
