I always equate this forum with the end of the day and sitting by the woodstove and chatting about the days events. But here it is too windy and dry to get a fire going, even though we have set a record for lows here (45F) for this time in October. It is also the time of year when we have had our two biggest fires, 1989 and 1992 if memeory serves (sometimes it don't!) so we just bundle up in sweaters and blankets....since our home is only heated by the woodstove, if we get desperate, we turn on the tiny wallheater in the bathroom, adjacent to our bedroom and watch tv in bed!! It just costs a bit of $$ to run, so not an economical solution but it is a warm one! At the end of today (which has a few more daylight hours to it) DH will have finished a welding job and I will be working on a quilt. It's just about done and needs to be shipped to our daughter and DH for Christmas as I don't think they will be coming up this way. Then we pack it in for an early night, about 8:00-8:30....hey, 4:30 in the morning comes early!! Have a goodnight!

I have my electric heater on now. The other day before the rain and the thunder storm we had the wood fire on and it got so hot, then yesterday without it, I got cold. So I am using the electric oil heater probably until lunchtime. If I have something hot again for lunch I think it will work like yesterday. I have to do a post for A Day In My Life today at Little Jenny Wren, I know it will be boring because nothing special is happening today. But you never know do you? It sounds like you have been working on the quilt heaps. Wow, nearly finished.

What a lovely post, happyathome.
Strangely enough, I had a little fire today. After cleaning out my bills and bank statements, there was a very large pile of paper. Don't have a shredder, so they went into the fireplace and blazed nicely for ten minutes or so. It was just wonderful watching the fire; there is nothing like the fireplace crackling away.

We have a shredder, I think we found it sitting at the tip. I think they have a place people sit things especially electrical things. I am scared the kids will hurt themselves on it, so it is hidden at the moment.

I have such a pile of things to burn!! It would probably not be good for the stove, so I'll wait until the rains come (please, Lord, let them come soon!) and start the brush pile with it. I think sitting by the fire is one of my favorite things...now if it would rain so I can get one started!

Actually my daughter 15 was so impressed with the camp fire at camp last weekend she wrote a poem. She was at a family church camp. Apparently 40% of the congregation are school age. Last night she wanted me to send the poem to her brother by email, and thankfully he liked it, I felt funny sending a poem to a grown man lol. I am not sure if it was for school but I had been asked to read about three or four drafts or pieces of this poem.

Sounds like your dd wanted that poem to be just right, Br. Happyathome, I think sitting by the fire is one of the nicest things one can do. As for rain, we're in big trouble here too, so let's hope that we both get some.

Speaking of sparrows, today I was picking in washing from the line, and one thought I was a stationary object and flew onto my shoulder. I haven't had that happen before. I guess they are not used to seeing me out there?
