Elisa, did you have any ads on your TV a few weeks ago about locusts in the ground? The farmers had to look around their paddocks I think for locusts and report them. The ad was on very often. I suspect it was around Wagga, but I don't know. Happyathome has heard about them. There are none here, but today's report says they are somewhere between Mildura and Echuca. I am just thinking about Robinvale and wondering if it affects the fruit. I was interested in reading about them. tinyurl.com/6ktp29Apparently they started out in Shepparton last autumn. When I was little I always imagined they came from NSW, like the great unknown. This doesn't sound very good. "The Australian Plague Locust is a native Australian insect that rarely occurs in Victoria. When it does occur, it can be in extremely large numbers aggregated into dense bands or swarms and can cause significant damage to agricultural production, to community assets such as parks, bowling greens, and golf courses, and to private assets such as lawns, vegetable gardens, and vehicles." I haven't seen any for years, maybe five years ago I may have seen some, not sure. When I was little we had large native grasshoppers in our school ground, but they were nice, not a plague that eats everything in site, like in one of the Laura Ingalls Wilder novels. Let's hope they can keep the damage minimal.
