I have done this tutorial with different colored yarns in sequence to make the stitches. I will be referring to each color in the pictures. I have tried to do this taking less pictures. So if you do not understand, please ask. In all pictures I will be referring to, I will go from top to bottom.
Double Crochet Tutorial
This tutorial will be done making 5 stitches.
Top Yellow - Make a slip knot and chain 7.
I have blackened the 4th chain from the hook. This is where you will insert your hook to make your double crochet. The 3 chains between the blackened one and the hook count as your first double crochet.
Bottom Purple - Yarn over and insert hook into the 4th chain from the hook.
Top White - Yarn over and draw through 1 loop. (3 loops on hook)
Middle Purple - Yarn over and draw through 2 loops. (2 loops on hook)
Bottom White - Yarn over and draw through 2 loops. (1 loop on hook) Double crochet complete.
In this next picture I have marked every other stitch. Starting on the right at the arrow, this is the top of the chain 3 which counts as your first double crochet.
Chain 3 and turn.
This is after turning, I have marked the 2nd stitch and the last stitch (Top of the beginning chain 3) in the row. Your chain 3 counts as the 1st double crochet so you do not work into the first double crochet but the 2nd one.
Work 4 double crochets across the row.
This next picture is a close up of the top of the chain 3. Remember to pick up both loops of the stitch.
