Here is a great tutorial on Filet Crochet. www.smartcrochet.com/tutorial.shtml

You do need to know some basics in crocheting first before attempting this, but it can make lovely table runners, pillow covers or very easy bookmarks when using thread. If you use a yarn, you can make an afghan.
