I would love to hear all of your ideas for decorating a room on a very stringent budget.
Where would you go to find things to decorate with?
What types of things would you use?

You know me....I love to go to Thrift stores. I find things and remake them into something new. Paint is a great way to make something new again. Also, use fabric to cover and match things. One just needs to pick a theme and go with it. Just decorate with the things you like...not what everyone else likes. =)

One could look on the ineternet and find things they'd like to use them figure out how to make them ;D
Paint is a good way to make things more personal
Using scrape of things you already have on hand. Like I did really neat Wine glasses, painted rose buds on them, let them dry for several days, baked them in a slow oven for a few minutes to set the paint and used mix matched beads on thin floral wire wrapped around the stem. Very elegant looking.
Pick from other rooms in your house, you know, things that would look better somewhere else.
Clearence rack, thrift stores, Freecycle!!!, Roadside market ;D

Roadside market.....does this mean like the stuff people put out for the trash man and you pick it up? If so, I think that is a very good term for it. = )

After looking at the H&H skin that I use, brown and orange etc. eventually I realised that our bedroom that has been painted by the previous owners country yellow, with two picture rails with an terracotta orange in a strip. Some of my furniture is on orange tones, some in red wood tones, but not too red. I realised that my room could take on American country so easily.
Up until this point I thought the brown/red furniture didn't match, one is cedar. I was a little stressed about it. Caroline's avatar with the red candle looked good with the skin.
Thanks so much girls.

BR, the colours you mention are so pretty...earthy and warm. You could easily do a lodge look in your room. Here in America we like that look. We also enjoy decorating with different wood tones in a room. I refer to this as eclectic... If you could picture it for us we might be able to offer suggestions to help you decorate it.

The curtains are plain pale cream, as is the carpet. The bed is black iron, plain. The wallpaper border up high has a little blue in it, not floral. Today I am going to look at www.homespuncountry.com.au for ideas, it came from an old magazine and hopefully still works.

Oh BR, the black iron bed will fit right in with country decor. Are you going for regular country, or a more primitive look or a more minimalist kind of Shaker Country?
