Decorating my new home

I so excited about starting the decoration phase of the inside of my house! I thought I'd start a thread where I could share my plans, post pics and get feedback and ideas! It's kind of a hassle for me to do the pics, so I'll probably just post a bunch at once.

I decided to do froggies in the bathroom! I went to Target and got the froggy bath rug, soap pump and tumbler to hold our toothbrushes. (I couldn't figure out how I'd keep that froggy toothbrush holder clean, so I left it there!) I'm going to get the waste basket and tissue holder too. I found some froggy fabric at WM to make a valance for my shower curtain and cover a step stool. I'm still looking for a powder blue shower curtain and I plan to paint the walls that pale mint green that we did the kid's room in in the old house. So I'm keeping my eyes open for little froggy pieces to put on a shelf or hang on the wall. Maybe I'll come a cross a wallpaper border to match.

The kitchen in going to be Americana. Mil has the fabric all picked out and is going to help me make a valance for the window, then I'm going to do some paining and stenciling over the cabinets. We're going to put a cabinet over the refrigerator and butt the stove and microave up next to it. I will keep my cookbooks on top of the microwave and fasten a spice rack to the side. It's going to be very cool!

I'm going to move the blue and white striped shades from the kitchen to our bedroom and hang the dark blue valances I got at the Sally up there. I eventually want to paint it a dark country blue with the ceiling khaki and put dh's eagle collection out. I did finally take a photo of the new bed that I might get around to uploading someday.

The living room and dining room are getting their gold drapes dyed dark green. I'm going to attach beaded trim to some of my upholstry sample squares and put them over the curtain rods. I have striped khaki and white covers over my couch and love seat so I want to use rose as an accent color. I can't decide what color I want the walls. I'd like to add more color than the drab eggshell it's painted now and I think a border would be too much with my makeshift valances.

I'd like to find a rose colored tablecloth big enough to cover Mom's table and make a table runner out of some olive fabric I found at the thrift store. Since I have every Avon Mother's Day plate ever made, except one, I will put those up around the wood trim in the dining room.

Re, the froggie .....Wal*Mart has a froggy theme items for the bath. You might check it. It is shades of green, blues and a bit of yellow.

Of course you know I love the Americana theme since I am doing that in my puter room also. SO many things out there in this theme.
Using you dh's eagles is a great addition.

A khaki ceiling sounds awesome. I am never brave enough to paint my ceilings anything but white or off white. Wish I was..course i have fairly small rooms and I think with your large rooms a coloured ceiling will be great.

Good idea about adding beading trim to the curtains...that is all the rage. Wally's has a great assortment of beaded trim.. Check that out. What colour beads are you thinking?

I had picked out some frog things from WM. When I got to the register I found they didn't survive the buggy ride. The spout and the base were broke off of the soap pump. I figured if they couldn't handle a trip across Super WM, they certainly couldn't withstand the munchkins! Needless to say, we left them there and got the ones from Target.

Our bedroom has sloped walls. They are straight up for 6 or 7 feet, then slope at a 45º angle the rest of the way up, 3 or 4 feet. I will paint the walls, all the way up to the flat ceiling blue. I'm hoping to find the perfect border to give it that vaulted ceiling look.

The munchkins room is HUGE, like 20' x 18'! Gracie has her little house bed. I'm thinking of how I can make it look more like a castle. I'd like to find a race car bed for Bubba. I can put their dressers back to back to divide their sleeping areas. So, I was thinking of doing that room in 2 different colors, a pink side and a blue side.

The little room Blake is in will be a guest room and we'll use the large closet for storage. Blake's going to have a big, cool room in the basement.

We've got like a back porch room. It has a sink in it so the dirty folk can wash up before they come in. I have a dry erase board with a calander on it hanging up back there. I'm going to hang a shelf above it to keep the phone books and my household binder on. There's room for my little drop leaf table back there that will be the designated "catch all" zone. Underneath it I will put beer boxes for our papers, cans and other recyclables. On the opposite wall I have a little shelf to store our shoes. I have a big mirror to hang over that to which I will add brass coat hooks to hold our coats this winter. Over the mirror I want to hang one of those shelf things with the little cubbies or drawers in it so dh has someplace to keep his tools up and I have someplace to stick the hats and mittens between uses. Theres a closet back there, too, that holds my vacuum and my appliances so they don't have to sit on the counter. (We also have a large hall coat closet)

A place for everything! Do you think I can get everything in it's place? Rofl.

I have faith that you can do that Karen..Sounds like you have it all planned out and I am sure it won't take you long to implement the plans. Good luck...Soon you will Ms. Organized..

I recently took part in a survey to find out what kind of American English I speak, even though I am not American. There was a question about buggies, and there was no answer for me. We call them trolleys!

I have been here well over a year, and I can't think of the right place for things. Your boxes for recycling sound good, but it is hard to get past the table to get to the side verandah, but worth thinking about.

I took a pic to show you! This is the bed I bought when we moved in. I want to do our bedroom with the eagles, blue and khaki, remember. I saw an ad for the kin size mattress and box spring for $500 and while at the store I found the head and foot board for $200. After tax and bedding, I got this brand new king sized bed for arund $800! It fits just perfect in this room too!

What a lovely bed Karen. What finish is it. The eagles will look lovely with the colour of your comforter. Can't wait to see more..

Oh Karen you have such great ideas! I can just envision then all. Your bed looks wonderful, is it against that wall? Could you pull it to the center of the room? that way you could use side tables or nightstands on either side. Looks beautiful!!
