I need some advice on having a country or cottage looking fireplace. If you were going for that look how would you do it.
Someone painted the brick inside of it and around the edges BLACK, of all colours. Yuck. The mantel is pretty and is white, but simple an I want to dress it up some.
Also the brick on the floor on the hearth has been painted black too.
HELP??

I have a wood mantle, pink tiles around the heater edge and pink tiles on the hearth. The previous owner added two black candle holders with pink and gold candles on them. There are two shelves and it is quite large, ie the wood surround.

I think I would first strip all that paint off and then you could try antiquing the brick.....you could crackle finish the mantle, and maybe put an old mirror above it, and some prmitive accesories....Just my thopughts...dh took over our fireplace and he has it all done in nautical theme....Its not bad, but not me

great ideas Jayne. The inside of the fireplace is black brick also..yuck. I want to do the inside in field stone, but dh don't think that would work. I am mostly concerned over the hearth and the mantel. LOL. It is a gas fireplace...I had the old mirror idea and I have the perfect mirror for over it.
What type of prim accessories would you use>
