When they build houses in Australia, do they build closets inside them? they do that in the states but here in France, They don't so you either have to buy an armoire or you have to buy some makeshift shelving system. I'm really disgusted about this.

Yes they do. I live in an older house, and the closet was added in a renovation by the previous owners. Yes, we only have one.
I learnt an American word, chifforobe, a wardrobe with drawers. I didn't have to buy one, I had another house like this, our first house, so we got it back from a relative's shed. It is working well. We also kept a wardrobe with a mirror on the front, even though we didn't have room for it in our second home.
Mostly the kids use drawers, with a large drawer at the bottom for jumpers or sweaters.
We also got an ironing cupboard back from our shed, actually here it only made it to the carport after we moved in. It has a small amount of hanging space, and has been used in the girls room for toys and hanging space as well as their two dressings tables or sets of drawers.
