I hate the flooring in my downstairs bath. I saw a show the other night where they took *new* vinyl squares and just placed them over the old ones. Has anyone heard of this or tried it yourself? I would think that you couldn't do that too many times, or your floor would be the height of your bathtub Seriously though, if it can be done with good results, I'd love to do that vs. ripping them all up and putting down new ones. Here is a link to the flooring I'm talking about: www.armstrong.com/resflram/na/tile/en/us/browse_by_color.asp

You can do it but you have to really be careful. First make sure all the old tiles are secured firmly, no point putting new tiles over old ones that aren't held down well to start with. Next the floor must be perfectly clean, no dust or dirt at all. I cleaned mine with a strong rubbing alcohol solution and used a scratchy pad to make sure there was no grease, dirt, etc. that would interfere with the sticking. Really scrub hard, you want to degloss the old tiles a bit. Then you have to vacuum and vacuum again to make sure no dirt or dust remains. I've done it this way several times and always had good luck. As you said, you can't do it but so many times or your floor will be too high but a couple of layers is fine.
