Our house has ply ceilings, not plaster. We may have to cut a piece out to install a new bigger manhole. The obvious place in the short hall has asbestos, so we can't make a hole there.
Apparently, the reason our house has ply ceilings (up very high) is that the road to our town at that time was very basic. The plaster board would have been broken by the time it got here.
Amazing isn't it?

When I say the road was basic, a goat track my husband described it as, something like 140km of goat track!!
