Don did the ceramic tile in our bathroom. I know he smoothed the grout on them placed the tiles using the little seperators? to hold them in place, once set he pulled the seperators out, and smoothed more grout over the entire area, let dry them came back with a wet (not dripping) cloth and wiped off the excess. HTH I wasn't really paying very close attention when he did it.

Ellise,
We are getting ready for our first attempt at laying ceramic tile. Going to do the entryway floor first..(small, and easy, we hope, lol). Would you ask Don if he found it necessary to put down the backer board first? Several have told us that you can lay ceramic right over subfloor but the guy at Lowe's said it won't stick ... Thanks

Don said make sure you put down backer board before you began this project! Otherwise you'll be wasting your time.
Hope you guys have fun! want to see pics Before and afters!

Yep, you need backer board, I think (I have never done this myself) you need a good cutter too for ½ tiles and angles.
Please don't forget to wear protective eye guards when doing the cutting!
Have fun and I can't wait to see pics too! ;D

Yes, the people at Lowe's said to use backerboard. We have some of the supplies and will get the rest when we get back from the farmhouse next week. Dh will invest in a wet saw too. He loves his tools..lol.
If we get it done and do a half way decent job in the entryway, we will do it in the baths, and also in the kitchen area. and laundry rooms..
Will take before and afters..
And Dee, thanks for the reminder to wear eye protection..I am good about that but dh isn't..he thinks his eyeglasses is enough..Grrrrr

Men they think it won't happen to them, ugh..... You can get the kind that go over your regular glasses. I have clear ones and sunglass ones from when I worked on the rr. They were mandatory if you went in the yard.

If anyone has ever had the eye infection/injury I had a couple years ago they would wear protection. I got a bacillus in my left eye and almost not only lost my eyeball but my life as well. Wear eye guards everyone Please...
