Ok, all your handypeople out there...Who has laid or helped lay wood flooring.
Dh and I are readying to lay some wood floors in our home.
We laid the floating wood flooring once in our life time, but only in a hall way. So we need suggestions for doing larger areas,Tools we might need, what colour flooring to go with all types of furniture, and suggestions about doing the floating floor as opposed to hardwood.

I personally would go with the middle of the road one on price and warranty. Car it's only you and Hack, just like it is only Jack and I, you don't have your kids and the entire neighborhood running over it every day. So I think mid price would be good. I don't really know about tools as I have never laid a wood floor myself, but I would think you need a hammer, a rubber mallet, saw, level, and pencil. (Don't forget patience! LOL) I'm partial to light color floors and I like the warmth of honey finishes, but that's just me.

I agree with Dee. Mel put ours in himself and I didn't really help other than to say "that looks great honey". We went with a mid tone color, not light but certainly not dark. I bet it's going to be beautiful once it's in.

Carolyn, we will be doing this this winter, and have chosen one with a 25 year wear warranty in a medium colored Beach Birch. Not too dark not too light. I love the warm hony oaks and such but after seeing this one it is the one we both agreed on.

I am horribly biased. Dh is an installer and I can't tell you how many peoples floors he has been hired to rip out and redo. They say they are great for the firstyear but that thye have trouble after that, and end up having to have them repaired or even replaced. I would see about contracting to have it done. JMO

Missy,
Thanks so much for the information. I had forgotten that your dh did flooring. Now when you say he was hired to repair/replace, was that the floating floors, or real hardwood? Dh is one of these umm *stubborn* men who won't hire anyone to do anything he thinks he can tackle himself.
