Ok, my hearth and home friends, I am getting ready to begin the tedious task of stripping wall paper...Walls, and walls of wall paper. Most of it is border, but the entry large entryway, stairway, and sitting room upstairs is covered in it.
Any tried and true suggestions on what to use. The first layer, the actual paper is dried up and seems to come right off. Some of it in one fell swoop, entire section, gotta love that. The underneath brownish paper with the glue isn't coming off so easily. I know I can rent a steamer to help, but other than that, any suggestions.
Someone suggest misting it with water mixed with liquid fabric softener?? Anyone done this.
Help please??

Cara~ try a scrubber/scratcher, you can pick one up at Lowe's or any home improvement place rather inexpensively. Mist with warm water and scratch at it with the tool. It's time consuming but Oh it works so well. HTH

I have used the paper tiger tool with great success. Also I heavily mist with warm water. I am not a fan of wallpaper because removing it is such a hard job. Good luck Carolyn. I hope it will come off easily for you. Seems to me that the key was really scuffing it up good with the paper tiger, misting it and then being patient and let the water really soak in.

Thanks everyone. All the wallpaper here came off so easily (the top part) except for in the small bath. It is just border (sail boats) but It took lots of hard work. I finished a few minutes ago, been at it all day just scoring soaking with water and fabric softener and then using a plastic scraper. Now I have to go back and get the brown backing off. Ya think I will get done today. Thanks for all the great advice. And Pat, would you believe I am putting border back up..Sigh..did I learn anything...nope..LOL I have never papered an entire wall before but I love borders.
Anyone wanna help???
