I am not sure I would call it renovating but anyway. Today we took part of the cupboard in the kitchen apart, and guess what we found? Bricks. So needless to say that is what dh has been doing, slowly removing them to create a space to put the dishwasher. Here is a photo I added in: Will add more later.

Sounds like a renovation to me, Br! We have bricks in our laundry; that's what the washing machine sits on. Used to be where the copper sat.
I suppose that the old fireplace or stove surrounds must have been where the bricks are in your kitchen. We had the same in our kitchen. Dh came in to see what was happening the day they pulled it out and looked so stricken I nearly felt sorry for him. He tends to see what's there, rather than what will be there when the job's finished. I think he was worried the whole house would fall down lol.
Anyway, if the bricks have to come out, at least you'll have some bricks to use elsewhere I suppose.

Yes, that is definitely true.

Well the plumbing is moving along. I am worried I haven't prepared enough. However, my old double laundry sink looked great in its new position. There are lots of new copper pipes everywhere. The washing machine taps are nearly ready to go on. Imagine having a laundry set up for twin tub, I know it doesn't seem that long ago that that was normal does it? The weird part is that if Mum didn't think I needed an automatic machine, would I still be using a twin tub.

Well, that was an illusion, it was all wrong on closer inspection. Will try to have it corrected. Today dh is putting in some more windows. I am sure it will make a huge difference from the "boarded up look". The new shower is on site, and I have ordered a basin for the bathroom. An ugly tap in the kitchen has been removed and the pipe outside from the kitchen is working again. The water disappeared under the house previously.

We are going to order new taps for everything, and shower rose. The electrician has wired the dishwasher. That was like a miracle. There was a powerpoint in the room behind the chimney and all that was needed was a couple of foot extension, drilling through the chimney and wala, straight into the place it was needed! The powerpoint in the bedroom mentioned is now double so that is great as well. The electrician has also fixed powerpoints that were hanging off the wall in the kitchen. Only one more day left of rehanging windows. Two panes of glass in the kitchen and two in our room. I think it has been fantastic. You wouldn't believe how clear the modern glass is compared to the older thin stuff. Well worth the effort. Painting the frames, I will have to be positive about that. We will get to that I suppose. Should I post a picture, it sure is still ugly in places there. Maybe great for the before and afters?

We did a lot of research and looking at the house and order posh bristol taps and one canterbury. However the plumber had additional imput, and the better taps are Caroma. This means you can have a matched set, without ruining tile work etc. www.caroma.com.au/products/data/tap/ultra4/main.htm

What the plumber did has been corrected. He also built the framework for the clear shower box, whatever you call it. Having the hole in the floor with the base set into it is marvellous. Has made the room so clean smelling. Just think, we had broken pipes, so we think some grey water was in the soil. Not fresh but still. DH is painting the bare concrete wall around the shower area, it is very small. The room is blue and aqua door. We found some aqua paint in the shed that will do for the time being. It is a nice color. Wattyls Heavenly Scent. Will have to try and pick up the vanity this week. We have to buy a mixer for the laundry for the twin tubs, that allows you to fill up buckets.

I had news today that work has been done on putting the top section of the back wall back on. That is wonderful, I can't believe it really. ;D

Things seem to be going along very well, Br. I think you've made the right decision with the taps. Last year the plumber replaced our very old ones with the Posh ones, and while they're ok, they're certainly not the best quality. The Caroma ones we've got are much, much better.
I'm pleased to hear that you are making good progress with your wall.

I agree about Caroma, but alas I have Posh. Pretty, but one of my pet "hates" is worn cheap taps. Caroma is obsolete. Firstly they said they could possibly get it I think, then did some research and got a whole set of Posh, with a couple of lookalikes included which apparently do look like them. The builder was impressed with the quality of our windows that were reglazed. The plumber is coming again very soon. For those who don't know the top section of the wall was asbestos and we had the asbestos removalists come. Mostly it was because there was a hole in it, and also come crumbling right where we walked in the back door. I think I forget what things used to look like.

We are picking up the vanity today. DH is going past, so I won't have to go there. I am so lucky it came in on the right day. It is a long drive.

I found drawers on the right hand of the picture today.
I found a light in the toilet, there wasn't one there before.
The kitchen floor is back in, the ceiling lined near the back entry and the place that had asbestos on one side and nothing inside above the back door.
The plumber has part way finished the shower.
All the windows are back in the house, all 28 panes of glass.

We decided to take the cupboard out of the dining room. It was a mouse house in the hidden parts. I was tempted to keep the cupboard as it had matching bench to the kitchen, but this bench was made on an older 60s style or earlier cupboard. There was carpet in the dining room that has been removed. There are floorboards saved from the kitchen to fill in the piece that was not boards. This is the start of our painting. I must add in the older picture for you to appreciate the difference.

The painting is going slowly. As you can we have had a set back. Though very happy the mortar dried well overnight. You can see we really need to paint the ceiling as well, though we probably don't have time. Need another base coat and two top coats.
