These are photos at the midway point. We didn't wash the kitchen out first, though should have, then washed it again. This is what started it all, problems with a pipe, that after the plumber came, I saw was nearly completely gone in the first section and a large slit in the narrower section. Water didn't actually come out if you ran the tap. It made the lino buckle, the half of the flooring rot, insect problems, borers, and water on the concrete part of the chimney just lying around. We removed the holey chipboard around the pipe, there were two types of pipe joined together, sometimes the water missed. White mould is slowly drying out there. There is a new pipe in the photo and a dishwasher pipe is to be joined on. The mark on the tile is just dirt, where the old pipe used to be. The window is missing it is the last one dh has to put back, it was narrow post war glass, irreplaceable. Finally the dishwasher place. All the flooring and windows and dishwasher surround will be done during the week. Can't wait.

Love the cupboards - they look great. Was it young people who owned the house previously? I'm trying to imagine who would use such bold colors in a kitchen - don't know that I could live with them. But then I love white and cream, which dd tells me is boring. ;D
You've really achieved a lot there. I reckon it's disappointing when a whole pile of money has to be spent fixing things that you can't even see - but it will be nice to know in the years to come that everything works properly!

Hi violet. I have been thinking the same thing. I did like it when I turned on the tap, very smooth and modern, ie the water flow.
The yellow is like lime sometimes which I thought it was originally to be with the purple. These photos make it look worse. I am thinking now it needs to be painted out. I could live with it for awhile if we don't get to paint it. I will leave the two bold rooms the lounge and my room and paint the rest. Well maybe the bathroom as well, which is St. Kilda in Wattyl.
The lady was very similar in age to myself, possibly a bit younger. They have a teenage son in the end of high school. Going on the name, maybe a 70s person, so younger.
Trying to get the edges planed off the corner of the bench surround. And also possibly lift up the sink to give the edges a good clean.
I have been starting to think what would go with beige and the pine. I have a beige & tiny blue with purple tinge square picked out for lino. That was a little bit before the budget blow out and going off the color of the wall.

Wow...that's quite the purple brick you've got there Was that originally where a fireplace was? It looks like there is a chimney flue in the bottom picture. When it comes down to it....I could live with it and spend money elsewhere and catch it the next time I had a few extra sheckles of gold! When it comes to remodeling, it is IMPERATIVE to keep a sense of humor

I think I may have enough paint to paint out the dining room in this color, I have taken what you guys said to heart. But the dining room is another thread I suppose.
A wood stove would have been in the "chimney" originally. The country places had them, I know we did when I was growing up.
See kitchen/back entry thread for updated photo!

We still have to wash the walls, make a baking tray cupboard, put down the white lino, hang yellow & white curtain, clean around the sink, find a light shade that directs the light down, paint out the inside of the cupboard/revarnish outside and clean the oven. Plus take rough edge off the bench edges. Hang picture and rehang some doors properly.

The walls are washed I think. The tray cupboard hopefully will still get done. We have the masonite down ready to glue down the vinyl. The yellow curtains may have to stay down, as the light is reflected from the concrete under the back verandah through the window up onto the high ceiling, since we got the new windows around the back door. The sink has been cleaned around. I found a light on ebay, cost $20, saw a similar one in shop, newer of course, I think around $70 but very cute. The inside of the cupboards are painted, very fresh in there. The rough edge has been taken off the bench edges. The cupboard has been raised, and need to glue down our extra tiles we saved from some in the dining room that match the kitchen.
