Does anyone own their own shampooer? I have a Bissell Pro Heat Deep Cleaner and I love it. How often do you shampoo? Having pets I have to do it more often than I like, they have accidents and tend to spit up hairballs all the time (even with hairball remedy food and meds). I need to shampoo the carpets either today or tomorrow seeings how my house is getting smelly

The carpet manufacturers will tell you that they advise to clean as little as possible. I clean my carpets twice a year, and spot clean in between. I prefer to have hard wood and hope to have it thru out my home one day.

Oops Ellise, forgot to say that I don't own a carpet cleaner. I rent mine from Wal*Mart once a year and the other time I call in the big guys...

Ellise, can you point me to the thread about possible dampness under the house, please?

I have 3 LOL. One is an upright that I use for the actual shampooing, another I have is a canister type that I use for rinsing and then I have a small spot cleaner. This is the 2nd spot cleaner one I have bought over the years as it gets the most workout. LOL And yes pets make messes just like small (and big) kids do. I only actually all over shampoo 2x a year also, but like Car would love my hardwood floors back. We covered ours for 2 reasons, one we couldn't refinish them and they needed it badly. Not enough depth left to the flooring to do this and then of course for the warmth.

I have a Bissel Pro heat as well. I haven't used it this year yet.. My carpets look so bad right now. ugh. I usually try to do it every 6mo or so. I didn't feel up to it this spring being preggers and all, and so far I haven't gotten around to doing it this fall. Maybe this week. hmmm....
