Wow, those sites look good. What is it about stuff that's not close to home that makes it seem more appealing??
I'm wondering what the curly plant is on the lower left hand side of the Koanga site?

Those are garlic scapes! The stems that come out of garlic bulbs - they can be used to make garlic scape pesto!
Garlic Scape Pesto
1/2 lb. organic scapes (chopped into 1" sections) 1 c. organic olive oil 2 c. grated parmesan cheese
In a blender, combine the scapes and olive oil. Pour mixture into bowl and blend the cheese in by hand.

That sounds delicious, rosebee! Thanks! I didn't know the garlic tops were edible.

Thanks rosebee. Sounds lovely. I thought I'd add this site I found that has garlic scrapes in it. www.porkpeople.com/shrm_spices.htmlmostly because it is a nice site about herbs.

I copied these down from an Australian magazine I picked up somewhere - can't remember what magazine it was now! Diggers Club: www.diggers.com.au/Green Harvest: www.greenharvest.com.au/Both sell heirloom/heritage organic seeds. Green Harvest even has carob tree seeds! Yum. ;D They also have a lot of useful info on organic gardening and how to grow fruit trees. Unfortunately neither ship overseas (I will have to find another carob tree seed supplier!)

A little off-topic. We had a tomato grow by itself somehow at our other house. We have automatic sprinklers there. Anyway, we brought home a few ripe tomatoes at the start of the season, and they tasted like shop bought tomatoes!
So we gathered they were a commercial variety.
In the past we always grew Grosse Lizzie I think, they have the homegrown flavour that I know. Not sure if they are heirloom.
