I grew up with gooseberries in the garden. I tried eating the ripe ones, but I don't remember anything being made with them, although I could be wrong. I love crumble recipes, so found this interesting. Gooseberry Crumble Use the small gooseberries for this dish. If you grow them in your garden and have surplus, so much the better. Easy to prepare. 1 lb gooseberries, top and tailed and washed 2 tbsp sugar for the crumble: 8 oz ( 220g ) plain, sifted flour 6 oz ( 170g ) unsalted butter 4 oz ( 110g ) caster sugar 1 pinch of salt Sift the flour with the salt into a bowl add the cold butter and rub into the flour, until it looks like breadcrumbs add the sugar and mix together place the gooseberries and sugar into a greased ovenproof dish and cover it completely with the crumble mixture place in a preheated oven ( 200c /400F )for 30-35 minutes until golden brown serve hot with vanilla ice cream, delicious. That sounds really good. I haven't seen any of those growing around here.
