....that I can't get this place uncluttered in just one day! I got rid of some stuff in the kitchen, but there is so much more to do!

I know how you feel. I am taking stuff to charity shops almost every day at the moment! Mind you, I am getting prepared to move 11,000 miles away and need to get rid of a LOAD of stuff - HELP!!! I actually think the "stuff" that I CANNOT get rid of (books, CDs, clothes, kitchen stuff, ornaments) will take up SIX or SEVEN Tea Cartons to ship across the seas - oh noooooooo....

With clothes I guess that is not too much. I imagine that they are your treasures and you will enjoy having them there at the other end.

Hm. As someone who spent 18 months unpacking people's stuff after they moved, not one of them ever expressed delight at seeing their unused kitchen stuff, or unread books, unheard (?!) cd's, or unworn clothes again once they'd been unpacked. Without exception, people would say "I don't know why I didn't get rid of way more stuff before we moved". I think it's familiarity, as in you've been looking at some of this stuff for so long that it seems a part of you and your life. Then, when you've relocated a million miles away in a whole new life, it just looks like junk.
Of course some things are special, some are beautiful and some are useful. The hard thing is knowing what you're likely to miss in the next year or two if you get rid of it, but usually it's less than you think.

You definitely have a handle on stuff MissViolet. This has been my recent experience too. I can imagine Rosebee being very attached to her books. I ran Rosebee's post past dh and he pointed out that things might be difficult to replace in New Zealand.
